UPIKE’s Film and Media Arts program focuses on film and digital media. As a student, you’ll learn to integrate digital technologies with traditional forms of artistic methods of expression through images. The program takes a multidisciplinary approach to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the media arts and the relationship between art, media, technology and business. The program curriculum includes courses in film and media arts, communication, art, business and English.
Film and Media Arts majors are actively engaged in hands-on projects that span far beyond the camera to include digital workspaces, game development, and the canvas. From your very first courses, you will learn to create state-of-the-art digital media and use industry-standard software to bring your unique creative vision to life. Beyond the classroom, you will have the opportunity to earn credit and build a professional portfolio by producing client-based commercial video projects, developing complete video games, and participating in video competitions every semester.

Upon completion of the program, you’ll be versed in the history, theory and concepts of digital media and its importance to and effect on society. Using film and media arts as a platform, you’ll be able to identify and acknowledge diverse opinions, cultural experiences, and ethical, legal and social issues. In addition to demonstrating a mastery of the concepts, tools and equipment used in the creation of digital media, you’ll develop key skills needed to work as an industry professional.

“The FMA program at UPIKE provided me real-life work in a hands-on environment. The program has a wide scope, allowing students to focus on a number of fields such as TV news, radio or film. It wasn’t a bunch of ‘pen and paper’ work. I had my hands on a camera or editing software almost every day. I was prepared for my career at the time of graduation because I had already used professional equipment and been placed in professional situations. The classes are small, so FMA students truly get to know their classmates and professors.” CALEB NOE /CLASS OF 2015 /SPORTS ANCHOR & REPORTER, WVLT-TV (CBS) /KNOXVILLE, TN
