The University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Optometry is accredited with conditions by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) of the American Optometric Association (AOA). The ACOE is the specialized accrediting body for optometry that provides quality assurances concerning educational preparation of members of the optometric profession. The Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO) is next scheduled for a reaccreditation visit by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) in 2028.

In compliance with Federal Regulations, 34 CFR §668.43 (2019 Rule), the Kentucky College of Optometry provides the following disclosure related to the educational requirements for professional licensure in Optometry.
This disclosure is strictly limited to the KYCO’s determination of whether its Doctor of Optometry (OD) educational program, if degree is conferred, would be sufficient to meet the educational licensure requirements in a state for the practice of Optometry. KYCO cannot provide verification of an individual’s ability to meet licensure or certification requirements unrelated to its educational programming. Such individual determinations are made by state licensing boards, and are fact specific determinations.
This disclosure does not provide any guarantee that any particular state licensure or certification entity will approve or deny a graduate’s application. Furthermore, this disclosure does not account for changes in state law or regulation that may affect a graduate’s application for licensure and occur after the date of this disclosure. Enrolled students and prospective students are strongly encouraged to contact their State’s licensure entity using the links provided to review all licensure requirements imposed by their state(s) of choice.
The Kentucky College of Optometry has designed an educational program curriculum for its Doctor of Optometry program that if successfully completed is sufficient to meet the licensure and certification requirements for a Doctor of Optometry license in the following states and territories:
