University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine Achieves Recognition in U.S. News & World Report

The University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) has been recognized by the prestigious U.S. News & World Report in its 2024 rankings of the best medical schools in the United States. This acknowledgment highlights KYCOM’s mission to produce highly-skilled osteopathic physicians and its meaningful contributions to primary care and service in rural areas. KYCOM’s impressive achievements are featured across several key categories.

KYCOM was ranked #3 in the nation for the number of graduates practicing in rural areas and #12 for the number of graduates practicing in primary care. This distinction further highlights the school’s emphasis on training physicians to meet the growing need for primary care providers across the United States, while showcasing KYCOM’s vital role in addressing healthcare shortages in rural communities, where access to quality medical care is often limited.

The best medical schools for primary care were placed in four tiers of performance, rather than ranked numerically as in previous years. KYCOM ranked in tier two among the best medical schools for primary care, emphasizing its commitment to training physicians who focus on delivering comprehensive, community-oriented care.

KYCOM is dedicated to graduating physicians who are passionate about making a difference in rural regions, where their impact can be profound. Dean of KYCOM Joe Kingery, D.O., MBA, FACOFP, FAAFP, expressed pride in the college’s accomplishments.

“We are incredibly proud of KYCOM’s recognition in U.S. News & World Report’s latest rankings, especially in the area of primary care,” said Kingery. “This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to excellence in medical education, our dedicated faculty, and our mission to train physicians who will serve underserved and rural communities. Primary care is at the heart of what we do, and we will continue to innovate and elevate our programs to ensure our students are well-prepared for the future of healthcare.”

To create these lists, U.S. News & World Report surveyed 196 fully accredited medical schools, and calculated scores based on their percentile performance among all rated schools. For more information about KYCOM and its programs, please visit www.upike.edu.
