The Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) is proud to announce that fifth-year medical student Adaku Ikoh, MS, OMS V, has been elected as the National Vice President of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) Board of Directors. This prestigious role marks a significant milestone in her medical career and highlights KYCOM’s commitment to fostering leadership among its students.

The SNMA is the oldest and largest independent student-run organization focused on the needs and concerns of medical students of color. Ikoh, a dedicated advocate for health equity, has been actively involved in numerous community service projects and initiatives throughout her time at KYCOM. As Vice President, she aims to amplify the voices of underrepresented medical students and work towards improving access to healthcare for marginalized communities.

“I am deeply honored to serve as the National Vice President of the SNMA,” said Ikoh. “This position will allow me to further my commitment to diversity in medicine and to work alongside passionate students and leaders who share a vision for a more equitable healthcare system.”

Dean of KYCOM Joe Kingery, DO, MBA, FACOFP, FAAFP, stated, “Adaku’s election is a testament to her leadership skills and dedication to advocacy. We are thrilled to see her take on this important role and represent KYCOM on a national level. Her efforts will undoubtedly inspire other students to engage in meaningful change.”

Ikoh’s leadership journey includes roles in various student organizations and initiatives that focus on mentorship, community engagement, and professional development for students from diverse backgrounds. She plans to utilize her position within the SNMA to strengthen collaboration among medical schools nationwide and to create more opportunities for students to engage with the communities they serve.
