MBA Program Requirements

The University of Pikeville MBA program admission standards meet or exceed the general admission requirements for graduate programs. In addition to the general admission requirements, applicants to the MBA program must meet the following criteria:

1) Complete the MBA Graduate Application and submit the application fee of $50.

2) Provide transcripts of a baccalaureate degree in business from a regionally accredited institution. *

a) Applicants who do not have a business baccalaureate degree must show competency or proof of course completion through transcripts of a C (2.0) or higher in:

i. Financial Accounting

ii. Fundamentals of Economics

iii. Business Math and Statistics

iv. Principles of Marketing

v. Corporate Finance

b) Those who have not completed the above courses have the option to achieve proof of competency by completing and passing the courses at an accredited institution prior to beginning the MBA; passing an appropriate College-Level Examination Program

(CLEP), or passing these courses using University of Pikeville program approved software, e.g., Ivy or comparable software.

3) A minimum of a 3.0 GPA/4.0 scale in their undergraduate work.

a) Applicants with a GPA between 2.5-2.99 may be considered for admission:

i. All conditions in part 2 a and b of the Admission Requirements must be met.

ii. Three years of work experience, or a GMAT score of 500, or a GRE score of 300.

iii. If accepted, they will be placed on academic probation during their first semester and must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the probationary period.

4) A minimum of two professional references with contact information.

*If an applicant is enrolled in a professional school (pharmacy, dentistry, medical, etc.), or has earned a professional degree without a baccalaureate degree, a waiver from this policy may be requested by submitting a letter to the Dean of the Coleman College of Business documenting evidence for the waiver. The request will be reviewed by the Graduate Program Review Committee for consideration and the applicant will be notified of the committee’s decision. The waiver must include confirmation of having completed the core business courses designated in part 2 a or 2 b.

Curricular requirements

To earn the MBA a student must complete thirty (30) credit hours of graduate level course work. All course work (including transfer work) used to meet the requirements for a degree must have been completed no more than ten years prior to degree completion. University of Pikeville reserves the right, even after the enrollment of students, to make individual curricular adjustments whenever serious deficiencies or needs are found. This may involve additional coursework whenever necessary. Deficiencies will be determined by the program faculty. Students may be required to take such courses without credit toward the master’s degree and at their own expense.

In addition to completing the hours required in the program, the student will complete a programmatic assessment.
