THRIVE Counseling Center

The UPIKE THRIVE Counseling Center provides short-term mental health services, including personal counseling, group counseling, consultation and referrals. Services are free and confidential for all currently enrolled UPIKE students.

Uwill, the leading mental health and wellness solution for colleges and students, provides our students free, immediate, and confidential access to licensed counselors by video, phone, chat or message. It also provides wellness programming including yoga, meditation, and mindfulness to help discover greater focus, balance, and joy.

Food Insecurity

KYCOM Food Pantry

Food in the KYCOM Food Pantry is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis – the pantry food is provided through generous donations from individuals and departments across UPIKE and in the community.

Location: Coal Building, Mezzanine

Items available are hygiene products (shampoo, soap, feminine hygiene products), single-servings of soup and pasta, canned soups and vegetables, shelf-stable items (rice, pasta, etc.) and snacks. Items in the pantry are constantly rotating.


Fitness Center

The UPIKE Fitness Center opened in spring 2021 and is available exclusively to UPIKE students, faculty and staff through key card access. The Fitness Center is open seven days a week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 11:59 p.m. The center is equipped with the latest fitness equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent bikes, rowing machine, etc. and a cardio room where students can participate in workouts hosted by FitnessOnDemand.

Resources for Alcohol and Substance Use

ScreenU is an evidence-based tool that can give valuable feedback on alcohol use. Participation is completely anonymous.

If you or someone you care about is struggling with addiction or mental health issues, we encourage you to seek help through a private physician, mental health specialist and/or a licensed professional counselor.

Local NA/AA 12-Step Community

The Grassroots Area (eastern Kentucky including Pikeville, Prestonsburg and Louisa and extending west toward points such as Campton and Morehead). The local meetings are in Pikeville at the building next to the United Methodist Church (107 Main Street). They meet each evening (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) at 7 pm. Saturday the meeting is at 7 at 231 Reddale Road. Sunday the meeting is 5 pm at the East Kentucky Dream Center (463 Hambly Blvd)

NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. We are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other to stay clean. There are no dues or fees. The only requirement for membership is the desire to stop using.
