The Council of Independent Colleges awards UPIKE a NetVUE grant

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) has been selected to receive a Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE) Vocation Across the Academy Grant from the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC). This grant program aims to help colleges and universities develop more effective ways to enhance the connection between undergraduate education and career preparation through the exploration of vocation and calling.

Selection for this award was based on a grant application submitted by UPIKE’s Director of the Center for Career, Vocation and Leadership, Kay Webb, Ph.D. She and her team are deeply grateful to the CIC and NetVUE for this opportunity. They are eager to begin this exciting venture and look forward to the many opportunities this grant will support, embedding vocational exploration throughout the university.

“I am thrilled to expand on the work being done in various sectors across campus around the exploration of vocation. Helping students think about what motivates them and gives them a sense of purpose is at the core of vocational exploration,” said Webb. “By partnering with advisors, coaches and student life, this grant will help move the conversation beyond the classroom and into everyday life for our students and those who support them. We will also have the opportunity to engage campus employees in conversations around their vocational journeys. I am so grateful to NetVUE and UPIKE’s administrative team for supporting our vision.”

The NetVUE grant, administered by CIC with generous support from Lilly Endowment Inc., will provide seed money. The grant amount, and money raised through the donor match, will combine for up to $90,000 by year three of the grant program. These funds will lay the foundation to develop, assess, refine and implement a robust vocational exploration program at UPIKE. At the end of the grant period, a well-established program will be integrated into the Center for Career, Vocation and Leadership funding.
