The University of Pikeville advancement team recently hosted a series of alumni engagement events in Florida. Alumni and friends in Jacksonville, Orlando and Palm Harbor were not only able to reflect on treasured memories of their days atop campus’ iconic 99 steps but also make new connections and talk with administrators, faculty and staff about the university’s future.
With numerous alumni representing both UPIKE and Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) located throughout the sunshine state, Florida was a natural choice for a series of engagement events. UPIKE’s advancement team makes staying in touch with the university easy for alumni by hosting events throughout the country.
January’s events began at the Wine Cellar in Jacksonville where alumni and friends gathered in an intimate setting over dinner. Alumni from different programs of study and graduation years enjoyed time spent reconnecting with their alma mater.
Friends of the university spent time learning more about UPIKE’s growth during an event at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando.
Wrapping up the tour, UPIKE hosted its final event at Casa Ludovico Italian Restaurant in Palm Harbor, graciously hosted by UPIKE and KYCOM alumni Drs. Jason (’00, ’05) and Stacey Hunt (’99, ‘03). Throughout the evening attendees introduced their families to new and old friends. The group was also able to hear from President Burton Webb and Chancellor Paul E. Patton about the latest developments at UPIKE and the students who call it home.
Event attendee Mike Williamson (‘58) echoed the thoughts of others about the success of the event.
“Wow, what a great experience at the Wine Cellar Restaurant in Jacksonville,” said attendee Gary Caudill (‘61). “It was a very enjoyable evening with friends and the food was fantastic. We can’t thank UPIKE enough for their visit to Florida.”
“What an event,” said Williamson. “President, Mrs. Burton Webb, Chancellor Paul E. Patton and other UPIKE officials were most gracious. Seeing old acquaintances was a great trip down memory lane, and meeting newer alumni gave me renewed faith that the world is in good hands.”
Williamson also encouraged other alumni and friends to take advantage of future events.
“If such an event happens to be in your area, I strongly suggest that you make a point to attend,” said Williamson. “You will congratulate yourself on what a great decision you made.”
Similar to their time atop the historic hill as students, UPIKE’s alumni continue to enjoy making new memories with university friends, faculty and staff. For an updated list of 2019 alumni events, email alumni@upike.edu or call 606-218-5276.
