The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is pleased to announce Assistant Professor of History Brittany Goetting, Ph.D., has been elected to the executive committee of the Middle Atlantic and New England Council for Canadian Studies. This appointment is in recognition of her scholarship on North American Print Culture, particularly her work on Baptist churches in Maine and the Canadian Maritimes.
The Middle Atlantic and New England Council for Canadian Studies exists to promote the study of Canada by facilitating interdisciplinary exchanges between scholars from across the globe. As a member of the executive committee, Dr. Goetting serves on the governing board of the council, helping to expand its outreach and plan its events.
Goetting’s appointment comes on the heels of receiving a fellowship from the Kentucky Historical Society. The fellowship will contribute to her research on the cultural impact of the Old Regular Baptist Church in Central Appalachia in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century.
“I am deeply grateful for both of these opportunities as they allow me to research and promote the significance of early North American religious history,” said Goetting. “The honor of serving on the Middle Atlantic and New England Council for Canadian Studies will permit me to foster a deeper understanding of the interconnected histories of North America, while the Kentucky Historical Society fellowship provides an occasion to delve into the rich and nuanced religious history of Central Appalachia. Both of these distinctions will further contribute to our knowledge of the ways in which religion, culture and history intersect in society across a wide geographic expanse.”
